Tom Hedden
Tom Hedden is known as a composer of various music for NFL Films used to underscore the weekly coverage of the NFL as well as numerous documentaries of the NFL.
Originaly he joined NFL Films in 1990 as music director but continued to dabb in composing while working in this position. His big breakthrough as composer came in 1994, when Steven Sabol asked Tom Hedden to write the score the big TNT special "75 Seasons: The History of the NFL". Tom Hedden collaborated with David Robidoux on the project resulting in a joint EMMY award for best musical score in 1995.
In the following years both, Hedden and Robidoux, moved to compose full time for NFL films as employed composers continuing to work jointly at big productions as well as separatly. Their joint work on the score for "UNITAS" a one-hour-documentary of the life of Johnny Unitas by HBO won them another EMMY award - this time for Outstanding Accomplishment in the Craft Area of Sports Music.
Their third joint EMMY award followed swift for their 2001 score for ESPN's one-hour special "EMMITT SMITH - RUN WITH HISTORY" celebrating Emmitt Smith breaking the all-time NFL rushing record.
Super Bowl XXXI saw Tom Hedden conducting the Louisiana Philharmonic his orchestral piece "Super Bowl" live on the field of the Superdome as part of the pre-game festivities. "Super Bowl" was commissioned by the NFL League Office as fanfare for the title game. The piece (albeit in the recorded version) is still used at Super Bowls when the teams are introduced.
